On Thursday, August 9th, 2012, at La Guayabera community social held at Espiritu Tierra Community Garden, El Puente officially launched the El Puente Green Light District WEPA! Project. The goal of the project is to document and share the artistic and cultural expression of the Southside community through in-depth mapping of cultural assets, activities, places and practices–ultimately creating a cultural assets action plan that will help to sustain and strengthen the neighborhood’s cultural vibrancy.WEPA! Project Artist Organizer Miguel Hernandez has begun collecting valuable data from Southside residents with the Artist/Artisan Surveys, carefully designed by the Green Light District team. Over the next six weeks leading up to the Green Light District Summit (October 9-14, 2012), El Puente will collect 200 responses, just a small fraction of the many creative individuals and collectives in this community.
The most recent results will be presented at WEPA! Fest, a performance festival and WEPA! showcase of CADRE (Community Artists’ Development and Resource Exchange) artists during the El Puente’s Green Light District Summit week.
